On November 25th, Martin University students Amber Dyer, Omar Marshall, and Necole Taylor participated in an inspiring visit to the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (IUSCCC). The trip was led by Marva Hunt, Lead Faculty for Healthcare Management, and Sydney Burt, Director of Student Experience, showcasing the university’s dedication to connecting academic knowledge with meaningful real-world experiences through Martin WORKS.
During the visit, students gained firsthand insights into the groundbreaking work being done at IUSCCC to advance cancer research and improve patient care. The experience deepened their understanding of healthcare management and emphasized the importance of leadership and advocacy in addressing critical health issues.
An important takeaway from this visit is the need for continued awareness of breast cancer, particularly in underserved populations. Did you know that 1 in 100 men can develop breast cancer? Early detection and education are pivotal in saving lives and strengthening communities.
The visit is a testament to the mission of Martin University and Martin WORKS to foster partnerships that prepare students for professional success while encouraging them to become advocates for positive change.
We extend our deepest thanks to the IUSCCC team for hosting such an impactful visit and to everyone who contributed to making this experience possible. We are building stronger communities and equipping future leaders to make a difference.
