MARTIN UNIVERSITY ADVOCATES VOTER REGISTRATION WITH BI-PARTISAN EVENT

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Martin University will host a bi-partisan voter engagement and awareness event on Sunday, September 29 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on its campus at 2186 Sherman Drive.

The “Empower the Vote” event aims to educate, engage and activate the community around the upcoming elections through “meet and greet” opportunities with local candidates, educational activities including learning about various issues, voter registration and information on how all eligible voters can exercise their right to vote.

The event is specifically designed to mobilize, educate and encourage voters to “Act for Democracy” through the following ways:

Meeting and Greeting the Candidates: Attendees can connect with local candidates who will share their vision and address concerns to help foster a more informed and engaged electorate.

Education: Attendees will learn how to use voter resources to engage their family, friends, neighbors and community.

Volunteering: Attendees can sign up to assist potential voters to ensure they are ready for Election Day.

Registering to Vote: A collective voice has the power to protect individual rights and shape the future. Registering to vote is step one in preserving our Democracy, which is always on the line and worth fighting for.

Activation: Attendees can sign up to assist in transporting voters to the polls.

As an educational institution, Martin University has the responsibility to provide the community various ways of informing and calling them to action to improve society,” said Dr. Sean Huddleston, Martin University president and CEO. “The ‘Empower the Vote’ event will focus on attendees understanding the importance of voting -- one of our very basic freedoms – and helping them navigate and feel comfortable with the process.”

Martin is grateful for and appreciates its “Empower the Vote” co-sponsors: The Indianapolis Recorder, the Greater Indianapolis Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA). Additional support comes from WTLC-100.9, Telemundo, the Indianapolis Urban League, Indiana Black Expo, The Exchange at the Indianapolis Urban League, Madame Walker Legacy Center, and the Indianapolis Chapter of IBE.

Founded in 1977, Martin University is Indiana's only Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) of higher education.
